Almost the best long distance touring shorts on the market

Used these shorts on a 1350 mile ride around the UK. First the good. For touring, these are the first shorts with really good front pockets. Zippered and secure for my wallet, passport (I'm Canadian, so a passport is required to get into the UK) and key to my lock. The stretchy back portion of the waist band made it easy to fit compared to other shorts with no give in the waistband. A strong elastic belt would have been a nice addition rather than the webbing belt as supplied. Although a bit heavy compared to lycra shorts, using this one with two liners worked out really well. I'd suggest getting the Singletrack liner though as the padding of the liner supplied isn't padded enough for long rides. I did find the length of the shorts irritating though as the edge of the shorts right at mid-patella rubbed with every pedal stroke. The vents and the little zip pocket down low weren't really useful at all to me. A shorter cut with a small dart up the side would allow lots of ventilation with a huge weight (and irritation) saving. The back pockets were huge, but as I didn't need them I can't comment either way. A shorter cut would make these the best touring shorts on the market

Disappointing successor to the original

Lets face it, it's hard to beat perfection. And that's what Endura achieved with the Hummvee I. The gold standard of trail shorts. So Endura, why did you even try to improve what was already the best?  These shorts are good, but they don't come close to the originals. The fit is good to size, but it's a weird cut at the front giving an odd baggy appearance when standing. The liner size however is way off. It's a medium size equivalent on the large sorts.  The material choice is good. Slightly lighter weight though it seems compared to the original, so we'll see how it holds up over time. The zipper pockets and vents are well placed, the zips are good quality and the pockets roomy. The "map" pockets however are a disaster. On this version these are further back than on the originals and smaller. It's difficult to get into them with gloves on. So much so that sometimes you have to stop riding to be able to access the pocket to get your phone in and out. This is compounded by the broad elasticated back panel, which provides a good fit when bending/seated, but stretches when trying to access the pocket so that you end up trying to push into a fold in the fabric instead of the pocket. Had the pockets been further to the front like before this wouldn't happen. Overall I'm satisfied, but with these drawbacks I'd now consider trying other brands. So please Endure, re-release the original versions and I'll buy enough to last me a lifetime!

Built to last

I bought a pair of these shorts nearly 15 years ago and have just purchased another pair. Not because the old ones have fallen apart just so I always have a clean pair. Great quality, durable, and comfortable to pedal in all day
