Danny MacAskill laughs when he recalls briefing Endura on his kit requirements for a trip to Mount Kilimanjaro last year. The team at the brand’s headquarters near Edinburgh are used to kitting out the star of viral films like Wee Day Out, The Ridge and Imaginate at short notice. “Endura are very good at getting my gear together,” he says. “I think I put in an order about five days before I left - the usual thing!”
Africa seemed determined to push Danny and his colleagues to their limits. Waking at 1am to begin their assault on the summit, Danny, Hans Rey and Gerhard Czerner were met by six inches of snow. Having hidden their bikes half-way to the summit the day before, the early part of their last test was made without additional burden, but even this was demanding. When they reached their machines, the combination of altitude, heavy snow, and an extra mechanical ‘backpack’ provided the toughest challenge yet. “Climbing a zig-zag path, basically just a scree slope, with an extra 15kg of bike on your back as well as kit, made for very, very hard work. Because you’re not planning to stay at altitude, you can make an extra effort and push your body to the limit, but getting up to that limit was probably the hardest thing I’ve done, and I’ve been on rides at maximum heart rate with my legs burning.”
Time moves quickly. With an exclusive edit of Danny’s African adventure only just released, we've already updated some of the pieces worn by Danny in Africa, taking inspiration from his riding and feedback. It’s why we can confidently claim that our flagship MT500 mountain bike collection is #DesignedForDanny.
Danny wore our multi award winning MT500 Jacket II and MT500 Spray Trouser to scale Africa’s highest mountain, as well as layering various combinations of MT500 Burner Long-Sleeve Jersey, MT500 Full Zip Long-Sleeve Jersey, BaaBaa merino base layers, and Urban FlipJak jacket.
Endura’s multi award-winning MT500 Waterproof Jacket II is now available in a new bold orange colour story. Boasting outstanding breathability and a feature rich design, this hugely successful piece is the ideal expedition jacket for all-day riding, as recently demonstrated by Danny MacAskill on his Mount Kilimanjaro adventure.
Made from exceptionally breathable ExoShell60™ three-layer waterproof fabric, Danny’s jacket of choice is fully seam-sealed and equipped with a water-repellent Vislon zip with storm flap for extraordinary weather protection. Ventilation is boosted further by large, underarm two-way zipped vents, which extend to the back of the jacket and are compatible with back packs. Durable shoulder panels with silicone grip and ergonomically-positioned stretch panels are also designed with rucksacks in mind Strategically positioned pockets place essential items within easy reach: two front pockets double as vents, while a ‘Napoleon’ chest pocket contains a glasses wipe and media port. A host of adjustable features are included to ensure a perfect fit, from the hood to the cuffs to the hem. Reflective details to increase visibility offer further evidence of a design in which every aspect has been thoroughly considered.
Endura positions itself again at the leading edge of MTB fashion with the launch of the MT500 Waterproof Pullover which channels Nineties MTB style combined with modern performance to offer the same breathability and weather protection of the MT500 Waterproof Jacket II.
Large, underarm two-way zipped vents make it super easy to slip into this ultimate trail pullover, even with cold fingers. The front zip pockets double as vents, and the large pouch pocket provides a discrete home for a concealed glasses wipe and media port.
When Danny MacAskill chose the first iteration of the MT500 Spray Trouser for the extreme environment of Mount Kilimanjaro, we might have been forgiven for leaving the design untouched. By choosing to make the best better, we’ve made the MT500 Spray Trouser II a further example of our philosophy of Renegade Progress.
For reliable protection from spray and mud, the updated MT500 Spray Trouser II is the ultimate companion. Featuring lightweight, four-way stretch front panels with DWR finish and durable three-layer waterproof rear panels with taped seams, even climbing becomes a more comfortable experience than with traditional waterproof trousers. We’ve incorporated a first class fit into a functional and feature rich garment, courtesy of a stretchable, high-wicking waistband with Velcro waist adjusters, allowing full freedom of movement. Clever details include thigh vents with mesh inserts, zipped hand pockets, reflective trims, and reinforced panels for the inner ankle. The outer ankle is equipped with a gusset-protected zip. The MT500 Spray Trouser II is even Clickfast™ compatible, making it the perfect companion for Endura liner shorts.
