In short: The Pro SL PrimaLoft II offers fantastic warmth for its low weight, is easy to stuff into a pocket and is versatile as either an outer or mid layer. It's also fantastically soft and comfortable, with a build quality to match its lovely feel. It's not cheap – especially as you'll still need a dedicated waterproof outer – but it's good enough to make grim winter rides palpably less unpleasant, and for that it's worth every penny.
